Directions for selling/donating your gear
Since throwing things away can cost QUITE a bit of time and money we do not accept gear for donation or sale that is dirty/smelly and/or in such poor condition it will not offer any protection to the rider. We will accept gear that has only cosmetic damage, but the price will need to be lowered accordingly.
Occasionally we will accept items that are ‘motorcycle style’(ex: branded with a motorcycle company but is not abrasion resistant/have armor and/or does not meet the requirements outlined below in other ways) if we think there is a market for it, but we will usually only accept gear meets that meets the requirements below:
- No helmets!!
- Jackets must have armor
- No fake motorcycle jackets
- No rips, tears, excessive abrasion, broken zippers, stains or smells
- No custom-made suits
- No chaps or leather vests
- No boots or shoes with laces
- No motorcycle parts or accessories
- No heated gear
- Pants and luggage only accepted based on inventory
If you are donating your gear or anything else there is no need to fill out the form below but it still needs to go through the process of being accepted, since we cannot afford to accept anything for which there is no market, since it will cost us money to throw it away.
If you are selling your gear and are concerned it will not be accepted, be sure to make an appointment with us to have it looked at and/or to follow the directions below so we can decide if it will be accepted:
-
Read and sign the Gear Consignment Agreement before you do anything. We will not put your items out if we do not have the form filled out and waiver signed.
- If the conditions in the waiver are acceptable, please fill out the rest of the form. Describe the gear in as much detail as possible, especially if there are separate pieces such as liners.
- It is extremely important that you fill the form out completely, including the price you are asking. DO NOT DROP OFF ITEMS WITHOUT PRICES FILLED OUT ON THE FORM!!! With very few exceptions, our recommendation is to ask for half of what you paid for the item or less. We will always try to get the most money for the item that we feel we can, since we get a percentage of what the item sells for. If we feel you are asking for too much or too little we will tell you, since it does not help Moto Guild if we do not make as much money as possible or for your items to be sitting around longer than necessary.
-
If it is easier to fill the form out in excel or some other spreadsheet, that is even better, as long as all of the columns in our form are filled out and in the same order. Email the spreadsheet to mail@motoguild.com
-
So as not to ruin your items, use painter’s tape to label all of your items with the first initial of your first name plus the first initial of your last name and the last 3 digits of your phone number
-
Even if you are only dropping off one item, be sure to CLEARLY LABLE liners and ALL other parts of your item(s) that can be separated from each other, especially the ones that separate easily and/or that customers will probably want to try on separately. Add not only the item number but also ‘1 of 3’, etc., to the label(s) so it is easy to know which item goes with which, as well as who is selling it. While most of the customers that try on our consignment items are very well meaning, unfortunately no matter how careful or well meaning customers are, it is very easy to lose track of which liners go to which jacket, etc., when trying many items on. Especially since we often have many items that are identical or almost identical to each other(especially on paper), and those items that all look like each other are of course what one customer will be trying to decide between. While Moto Guild staff will be adding price tags to all of your items, it can delay putting your items out to sell by quite A LOT of time if it is hard for us to tell which liners, etc., go to which item, especially if you or someone else brings in a lot of items at once. Having your items very CLEARLY labeled is the ONLY way to be sure your item(s) retain all of the pieces that go with them. If you do not have painter’s tape you can add the painter’s tape labels to all of your items at Moto Guild when you drop them off. Do NOT use post its instead of painters tape, since post its do NOT stay affixed, especially to anything that is not paper/flat! It is important to label your items AND to put all items back together. Do NOT drop items off in a big bundle of separated and labeled bits. They must be ready to be put out for sale.
- If you have many items and/or especially if you are selling items that have a very similar description on paper, number each item and add the item to your label as well. It is important to label your items AND to put all items back together. Do NOT drop items off in a big bundle of separated and labeled bits. They must be ready to be put out for sale.
